Five beard styles for alpha men

Since ancient times men all around the world have worn facial hair for a variety of reasons. Even today beards and other types of facial hair are worn by different people in different cultures with many different believes and motivations, from Amish people to Hipsters today we are going to be covering five different facial hair styles and their underlining meaning and symbolism. Read the whole article and at the end of it we will announce a contest for those of you dedicated to growing your own facial hair.

1.

1. The Rugged Beard

The rugged beard, also known as the full beard is the facial hair you get after diching the razor for about five months. But it’s not as simple as it sounds, not everyone can grow a full beard, some gentlemen have extremely patchy facial hair which would leave their beard with a bunch of holes in it if they would to grow it in this style, however since some of the hair may cover the patchy parts we recommend you grow your beard for at least three months before you decide whether or not you should go for this look. The ragged beard is worn by the truest and most naturalistic of alpha males, it symbolizes wisdom, security and creativity. Whenever someone sees a man with this style of beard they perceive him as more experienced and free thinking individual, if this sounds like you by all means try to grow this the master of all beards, but be warned a full beard requires dedications and learning to pull off!

2.    The Gentlemen’s Stubble

The stubble is a two to three day old beard that covers the entire area of your lower face. It’s warn by gentlemen who are not dedicated enough to grow a full beard but still want to add some dimension to their face. In modern culture this kind of beard is worn to show dominance and aggression and is a big part of nonverbal communication when it comes to being perceived by others as the alpha male. There are two ways to achieve this look, first one is to let your beard grow for a couple of days then shave it off and let it grow again, or if you want to keep the stubble constant, let it grow for a number of days and then just keep trimming it to the length you are happy with.

3.    The Sideburns

Sideburns used to be a giant hit with the working class men in the 19th century, they provide a great may to give structure to the jawline and to frame the rest of the face. You can also get very creative with your sideburns, keep them short and trimmed or let them grow out into a wild epic mess, even connect them to your mustaches! These are also a symbol of creative men as many artists through history sported this kind of facial hair. Again depending on which style of sideburns you choose to adopt the upkeep needed to keep them looking fresh varies, but it is truly worth it to try this facial hair style if you think you are a modern working class alpha male with a creative streak!

4.   The Mustaches

The second most symbolic facial hair style after the full beard, the mustaches were the proud symbol of militant men for ages, worn by the army and in later times adopted by police these powerful status symbols of manliness show dominance in a protective and even authoritarian sense. They add a whole new dimension to the character of a man, making him look and feel like the protector and the provider, when people see your mustaches they perceive you as secure and well meaning but also dominant and dangerous. As with the sideburns the mustaches also come in a variety of styles, and you can really play with them and decide which style suits your personality.

5.    The Goatee

The newest beard style of all of the ones mentioned here is the goatee. It’s the style of facial hair where the hair is grown only in the area under the lips and on the chin, while the rest of the face is clean shaven. Some men choose to connect their goatee with mustaches this style is called the circle beard and is very similar to the classic goatee. The goatee in a symbol of youth and playfulness, sported usually by young men and artists, it tells the world you are still young of heart. Although this style doesn’t symbolize dominance or dedication, virtues usually prescribed to alpha males it does show playfulness and openness which are as important to a true alpha male.

Gentlemen wearing a beard today is a statement of masculinity more than it was in times of our ancestors. Today as there are less and less true alpha males, and as masculinity is under attack from all sides we must remember and honor the ancient tradition of the great symbol of alpha males- the beard! I hope that after reading this those of you who don’t have one will try growing some kind of facial hair recommended here and see which style suits you the most.
